avivajazz Just listened to Dr. John's 'Sippiana Hericane' album (post-Katrina) + read an interview where he let his "pissed-off-ness" hang WAY out... (reblip)

avivajazz Aha! Never woulda guessed... I don't think I've ever heard him sing, in all the years I've been hearing him! Intense... Thanks, @swilson .
avivajazz Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter ~ Nikka Costa ~ Thanks to @olumide_e ! (reblip)
avivajazz Should you stay or should you go...to sleep? I say you should stay...and send more of that great, somewhat obscure, esoteric bluesy stuff, @swilson. (reblip)
avivajazz Ain't No Sunshine (when she's gone) ~ Al Green (reblip)
avivajazz "You should listen to @hoochieman ... just 'cause ... you should," says @swilson. I agree with all my heart n' soul. (reblip)
avivajazz @swilson, Is that really Dr. John singing the lead? Hmmm. Shades of Tom Waits in the vocal quality; style couldn't be further apart, though. (reblip)
avivajazz Ok, @crowjane. You've been trying to leave gracefully since 9:30, and all you get is "clap on." Time to dust us off n' get you some beauty sleep! (reblip)
avivajazz @swilson, fantastic! And not just cuz it's good flirting material :) (reblip)
avivajazz @swilson : Intro's pure ecstasy. Like that "jimi hendrix" thing (riffs) in the middle, too. Intriguing band. Their voices? Maybe too smooth for me. (reblip)
avivajazz @crowjane, @swilson is right...and what's with this "clap off" stuff? You don't have your TV on now, do you?
avivajazz @swilson, thanks for this "low down dirty dog blues;" I can't seem to get enough Son House tonight! (reblip)
avivajazz Son House was "the incarnation of the blues...the centre of the blues experience," according to Bob Groom in Blues World (1967). You agree, @swilson?
avivajazz Bob Groom (1967): The blues possessed Son like a "lowdown shaking chill," as he was "snapping the strings back...to accentuate the agonized rhythm."
avivajazz Mississippi John Hurt ~ Stack O' Lee. Taj Mahal later covered this to much acclaim... (reblip)
avivajazz Born 1895 in Tennessee, Clarence Earl McCurry (Tommy Tiddy Waddy as a kid, later just Tom) played clawhammer banjo, sang 'Appalachian,' hit in 1960s.
avivajazz Dark Holler by Clarence Ashley, master of clawhammer banjo and that nasal Appalachian drone voice, started playing at medicine shows around 1911.
avivajazz Son House on the blues: "You can sing the blues in church if you use the words right...it's according to what you have on your heart."
avivajazz ♫ Son House (1902-1988), Mississippi born, seminal Delta blues musician was a key influence on Muddy Waters + Robert Johnson.
