iantm This was one of my favorite records this year, just because of how weird, obscure, and inscrutable it was, while maintaining a consistent hookiness.
iantm If you heard people dropping the term "chillwave" this year, they were talking about this track. Everybody is waiting on this dude to drop a full LP.
iantm The-Dream is the genius behind the scenes writing songs like "Umbrella". Still feels like people are sleeping on this dude, best top40 r'n'b out.
iantm Hey, remember Nirvana? Yeah by the way, in case you were one of those clever fucks that calls them overrated, watch them lay it down here.
iantm Happy to see all of Emitt Rhodes' studio work compiled into one handy set this year. A genius who recorded everything on a 4 track in his garage.
iantm Chris Bell, troubled songwriter from Big Star, saw most of his work reissued this year as I AM THE COSMOS by Rhino. This song slays me every time.
iantm Reissued this year, VSuns first two albums are absolutely essential 1980s indie/punk that was swept under the rug. Should have been as big as Nirvana.
iantm Joker & Ginz-Purple City/Reup 12" was one of my favorite releases this year. Is this even dubstep? Do people just call all techno dubstep now?
iantm One of the greatest guitarists there ever was passed away before his time this past Saturday, December 5th 2009. Please buy any album he ever made.

iantm One of my favorite scores. The movie is a technicolor dystopian satire of reality TV. Pretty ahead of its time. Also, Ursula Andress!
iantm Scott is one of the most daring figures in pop. He went from bubblegum to this utter fucking darkness, 1965 to this in 1969. Bowie stole his playbook.
iantm Tina Turner unhappy with the scene Ike brought her to. Another troubled abusive musical genius like Ruffin. Can't argue with this song, though.
iantm Egomaniacal, deeply troubled Temptations singer's opening cut from a 1969-era album unreleased until 2004. Torn about loving this, making it better.
iantm Not quite solo yet, Gary Numan's pre-synth band ripped through a set of blistering, if formulaic, punk rockers. Better than the goth stuff he does now
iantm After albums of successful synth pop, OMD dropped DAZZLE SHIPS in 1983, an album that bridges the gap between Wire's 154 and KID A. Hated in its time.
iantm One of Curtis's best funk jams opens an album NOBODY TALKS ABOUT, his soundtrack to the movie SHORT EYES. Guess it played second fiddle to SUPERFLY...
iantm Who knew a Beach Boy could drop an epic that could dwarf the best of Pink Floyd? How close did Wilson come to being killed by the Manson Family?
iantm One of my favorite lyrics ever, "Where words are lost and tempest tossed in lemon lime". Brought to you by Van Dyke Parks of Beach Boys fame.
iantm From my favorite, and still unreleased in the CD era, Neil Young album TIME FADES AWAY. The entire album is the sound of a man unraveling.
iantm Dropped like an atomic bomb on radio after an unsteady few solo years for Robinson. The single went on to invent an entire r&b genre, "Quiet Storm"
