SubAquatic Rostam Batmanglij was born to Iranian parents and grew up in Washington D.C. Produced the first few Vampire Weekend records. The kid is a talent.
SubAquatic White Denim is a quirky indie rock trio out of Austin, Texas. They'll be playing the Biltmore Cabaret in East Van on August 6th. Worth a visit.

White Denim 'Street Joy' live at The Ghost Room

SubAquatic Riveting fusion of dance rock and post-punk. Crushing, hypnotic sax crescendo at the tail end of the track that ties it all together.

THE RAPTURE | HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE?

SubAquatic An under-appreciated London act that evokes memories of the Jam circa 1981. This is from their 2009 release by the same name.
SubAquatic One of several worthwhile tracks from the March 2012 release by a quirky Swedish indie pop trio whose background is more rooted in music production.
SubAquatic I'm guessing that the members of Hard-Fi, Maximo Park, and the Kaiser Chiefs all got heavy exposure to the Clash during their formative years.
SubAquatic Brooklyn-based indie outfit that rose to prominence after opening for MGMT last year. Simple, plodding song structures but nifty hooks. A hit at SXSW.
SubAquatic Just in case it wasn't already sufficiently 80's derivative, the added keyboards erase any doubt that this Horrors' track is appropriately classified.
SubAquatic Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, the not so aptly named Beirut put together some eclectic releases before this 2011 offering.
SubAquatic Tommy Guerrero is a perimeter artist - but was a world-class skateboarder in the late 80s and early 90s. Talented kid. Props to @BigNosePictures. (reblip)
SubAquatic Principally the output of British downbeat / ambient artist Simon Green. From his 4th album - released earlier this year.
SubAquatic You don't get too much more stripped down than Polly Harvey alone on stage with no production and no board. Just a guitar and a message.
SubAquatic Ambient pop with keyboards layered as a wall of sound. Recommended listening for about 3am. M83 has this market cornered.
SubAquatic Atmospheric release from Baltimore-based duo that signed to Sup Pop this year for their third record. Mazzy Star a likely influence. @longstoryshort
SubAquatic The other unheralded single from their self-titled record that had an impressive swagger to it. Wouldn't have expected less from Glasgow.
SubAquatic Their 2005 debut was an impressive effort from start to finish - but something didn't translate to their last couple of records for me.
SubAquatic It's safe to call LCD Soundystem a breakthrough band - in the sense that they changed the direction of indie circa 2002.
SubAquatic Shins' guitarist James Mercer is half of the creative input behind Broken Bells. Super distinctive voice, but his trademark high register is missing.
SubAquatic Out of Perth, Australia. Rumours abound that they refuse to sport any footwear on stage. Not sure why. Uncovered by @longstoryshort. (reblip)
SubAquatic Any band that can find a way to use the word 'cajole' in the chorus of their song has to be OK.
