This got under my skin the first time I heard it -- in 1984, God help me. "When the world is a monster/ Bad to swallow you whole," listen to this!

This tune still creeps me out, to this day. And I still think it's one of the great rock 'n roll songs ever.

@Gen22: "those who are dead, are not dead, they're just living in my head.... [Coldplay - 42]" -- Cool song!

This song smacks you in the face with its intelligence and kick-ass energy. I can't say enough about great these guys are.

Amazing tune -- with an incredible groove and amazing harmonic changes throughout. Or as my spouse says, "F----g brilliant!"

This is *seriously* depressing -- but it's unforgettable. Kids who like vanilla rappers like JayZ should catch this and "White Lines." Hardcore.

This is an amazing tune -- manages to be inspiring in about, say 45 seconds. It does one hell of a job of kicking off The Boondocks.

@mark_till: "Green Day - When I Come Around" << My 10 year old son LOVES Green Day. Me too. They're equal-opportunity cool!

"Freedom of speech/ That's the mothafu*&(n bullshit/ You say the wrong thing/They lock your ass up quick." Believe it or not, an eloquent rap.

I like the hiccup in Dale Bozzio's voice :-) This tune is the epitome of the 80s synth-pop tune -- and dammit, I'll admit it, I love the 80s!

This song never dies -- I get a giggle out of it every time I hear it, even 20+ years later....

Between the mumbling and the brit diction, I often can't tell what singer Richard Butler is saying. But I love this song's sweet/creepy vibe anyway!

Now, a masterful send up of the forces that get bands like 30 Seconds to Mars signed. (The fake emo band in his video is adorable!) MC Lars rocks!

Hey, how about some fun goth/emo? I've always found this to be a really compelling tune. (Though guys, just a bit less eyeliner please?)

At this point, after nearly 20 years, I can't swear this isn't cheese. But I float with the dreamy chorus: "Earth below us/drifting, fallling.."
